American Sign Language Classes
 
Cost and Payments
Cost per student per session: $100
  • Discount group rates are available for 3 or more individuals registered together ($75/session)
  • Class fee waived for Perspectives employees
Cost of a book for all levels: $85
  • Students may borrow a book for a $20 deposit
  • Deposit is refunded upon return of non-damaged book
Cost for a Certificate of Completion: $25
  • A certificate denoting the amount of CEUs and hours earned will be mailed to students from the University of Rhode Island for a nominal fee of $25
 
All payments are due at the start of the first class.

Perspectives Corporation's American Sign Language (ASL) classes are offered to employees and are also open to the public for individuals ages 16 and up.

Our ASL classes are designed to help professionals who support children, adolescents and adults who use sign language as a primary means of communication. Teachers, parents, family members, friends and caregivers will also benefit greatly from taking these classes as they build the necessary skills to communicate with the Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing person.

Enrollment and Participation

You can register for Perspectives' ASL classes online. Classes meet once per week, for 2 hours, and run for 9 weeks. The cost is $100 per student, plus the cost of a book which can be used for all ASL class levels. Group rates are also available for groups of 3 individuals or more.

Perspectives ASL Classes in partnership with the University of Rhode Island

A Certificate of Completion will be awarded at the conclusion of class by the University of Rhode Island Feinstein Providence Campus, Office of Special Programs, and CEU credits for Professional Development will be provided. The cost for the certificate is an additional $25.00.

Class Schedule
 
Classes meet once per week, for 2 hours, and run for 9 weeks.
Workshops meet once and cost $10 per student unless otherwise specified.

American Sign Language ASL 1 »[click for description]

This is a "voice off" class where students will begin using the ASL at Work curriculum covering units 1 - 5. Students signing up for this level have little or no sign experience. Examples of topics covered include; introducing ourselves, making appointments, and describing people at work and work duties. Students will begin to develop ASL comprehension

This is a "voice off" class where students will begin using the ASL at Work curriculum covering units 1 - 5. Students signing up for this level have little or no sign experience. Examples of topics covered include; introducing ourselves, making appointments, and describing people at work and work duties. Students will begin to develop ASL comprehension and expressive skills at this level. Information on Deaf culture and awareness will also be integrated into this class. This class is designed for human services and healthcare professionals, educators, and anyone else interested in learning ASL using a total immersion approach.

American Sign Language ASL 2 »[click for description]

This class continues with the ASL at Work student workbook covering units 5 – 9. As in Level I, class will be held completely “voice off” and will focus on using learned vocabulary to create conversations and discussion using ASL structure. Examples of topics of discussion include; sharing personal information, time and activities, and asking for assistance. Prerequisite: ASL Level 1 or similar coursework.
