Rhode Islanders Gain Platform to Demand Change

KINGSTON – The Governor’s Commission on Disabilities held its forth public forum yesterday, Wednesday, July 26th, creating a direct line of communication from individuals with concerns to the Rhode Island Legislature.

Nineteen people gathered in a conference room just south of the University of Rhode Island’s Kingston campus to discuss current issues faced by people with disabilities and family members of people with disabilities.

Students from the Rhode Island School for the Deaf join our Integrated Summer Camp Program

Students from the Rhode Island School for the Deaf will join our Integrated Summer Camp Program this year for 2 full weeks from 7/31 - 8/11. Perspectives Youth & Family Services, Deaf & Hard-of-Hearing Program, has collaborated with the School for the Deaf to give students who attend summer school an alternative to the traditional classroom setting. Every year the Governor's Commission on Disabilities holds a series of forums throughout RI to give individuals with disabilities and their families an opportunity to share their concerns. Past concerns include limited RIPTA access in South County, translation services for the deaf & HOH, and others.
