Self Advocacy Pasta Dinner Fundraiser August 25

Self Advocacy | Disabilities | Rhode Island
Perspectives Self Advocacy Group will be holding a Pasta Dinner Fundraiser at the Mettatuxet Yacht Club in Narragansett on August 19 at 5:00pm.

Dinners are only $5.00 per person, or $20.00 for families of 4 or more.

All proceeds will benefit the Perspectives Self Advocacy Group by raising funds for a variety of purposes, such as educational trips, speakers, special events and more.

Advocates In Action RI Leadership Series

Advocates In Action RI is pleased to announce that applications are available NOW for the Leadership Series Class of 2017.

Completed applications and 2 letters of reference are due no later than Friday, July 31st, 2016.

Advocates in Action RI developed the Leadership Series to help people learn how to speak up for themselves and others, be in charge of their own lives, and raise disability awareness in the community.

Governor's Commission on Disabilities Annual Public Forums, July 2016

Rhode Island Governors Council on Disabilities
The Governor’s Commission on Disabilities and a variety of other organizations will be co-hosting public forums throughout the state of Rhode Island.

These forums are an opportunity for ALL people with disabilities and their families to speak out and voice their concerns.

There will be a panel of representatives present from several state agencies and community-based organizations to listen to the participants. These forums are being held throughout the state during the week of July 25th – 29th, as part of the 26th year anniversary celebration of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

RIPTA To Extend Free Travel for Seniors and People with Disabilities

The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) announced on June 23, 2016 that for the next six months it will continue free transportation for passengers enrolled in its program for low income senior citizens and persons with disabilities.

RIPTA is also extending the deadline for passengers in the program to get new identification cards that serve as passes when boarding the bus.
