Early Interventionist

Deaf & Hard-of-Hearing Services


RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Providing in-home support to a child with hearing loss and their caregivers
  • Teaching functional ASL based on principles of the Routine Based Interview (RBI) in use by Early Intervention, as well as caregiver-specific needed sign language
  • Working alongside a clinical consultant experienced in serving the Deaf community
  • Sharing resources related to education, community connections, social supports, and advocacy as they relate to Deaf and Hard of Hearing people
  • Sharing their own lived experience, when applicable
  • May occasionally work in community settings such as schools or daycares
  • Participating in agency activities, serving on committees, and communicating the agency’s values and principles to others.

JOB REQUIREMENTS


Minimal Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in early childhood education or similar field OR bachelors degree in non-related field with three years experience working with children OR high school diploma/GED with six years of experience working with children
  • Fluency in American Sign Language
  • Identify as Deaf or Hard of Hearing OR have lived experience in the Deaf community with deep familiarity with cultural norms and the Deaf experience (ex – Child of Deaf Adults)
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills
  • Reliable Transportation / Proof of Auto Insurance
  • No more than 2 moving violations within a 3 year period
  • Favorable Criminal Background Check and DCYF Clearance

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working with Deaf children and their caregivers in early childhood (ages 0-3)
  • Knowledge of implementing Individualized Family Support Plan (IFSP) goals
  • Knowledge of language and communication barriers frequently seen in young children with hearing loss and how to support caregivers in navigating these
