Perspectives’ Shared Living Arrangements (SLA) provides people with intellectual or developmental disabilities the opportunity to live in private homes with dedicated providers who support their personal growth and development.
Shared Living Providers are compassionate caregivers who welcome adults with disabilities into their homes and lives. They’re advocates, friends, and mentors who empower individuals to develop relationships with others, and encourage them to participate in everyday activities. Shared Living Providers also support individuals in learning new skills, socializing, household management, discovering new hobbies, and pursuing personal interests.
Shared Living Arrangements mutually enhance the lives of both the individual and the Shared Living Provider.
Through the SLA program, individuals have the opportunity to live in a natural home environment and choose the person(s) with whom they will live. In return, Providers receive a tax-free stipend, tax-free room and board for the individual and other notable benefits and compensation.
In addition to SLA, supported individuals may also choose to participate in Perspectives’ Day and Employment Services programs. As a result, many Shared Living Providers work outside the home and continue to have time to enjoy on their own – all while being a positive force in the life of a person with a disability!
Shared Living Providers and participants are paired through a highly-personalized matchmaking process. This ensures a lasting and enriching relationship built on stability, friendship, and mutual trust.
Although many successful arrangements are made between people who already know each other, almost anybody can become a Share Living Provider — including an individual’s family members who may be already providing supports to their loved ones (also known as Kinship Care).
Every participant is actively involved in developing his or her own Individualized Service Plan (ISP). Providers are trained and supported to help individuals achieve the goals outlined in their plans by an experienced team of professionals. These professionals have a long history in providing services for people with a broad range of intellectual and developmental disabilities.
