Supported Employment Services

For Adults with Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities

Perspectives’ team of ACRE-certified employment professionals help individuals with disabilities find careers they love in the community. Through our services, individuals can prepare for, find, and keep meaningful employment, with Perspectives’ experts there to help find opportunities for starting a career.

From skills assessments to resume reviews, interview practice to on-the-job coaching and support, our work readiness training and job retention services provide individuals the tools they need to work as independently as possible. With Perspectives, they’ll learn to present themselves to potential employers in a way that makes them comfortable, take ownership of their work as they become more independent, and make lasting relationships with their coworkers.

Employment First

Perspectives is proud to support community-based, integrated employment as a first priority, building relationships between individuals and their community with each successful hire. We work directly with employers to ensure individuals are accommodated on the job and supported to do their best work, as well as provide supports in learning public transportation, soft skills, and other resources necessary for individuals to take ownership of their role within the community.

Our employment services benefit local businesses, as well. Beyond our on-the-job supports and services, our communication with employers, analysis of their business needs, and screening of individuals’ skills and interests allow us to pair employees with employers for productive, quality work relationships. Perspectives helps employers coordinate proper accommodations, works with them to assess where they can benefit from a new employee’s talents, and provide support for any questions employers may have.

Specialized Programs for First-Time Workers

The Person Centered Supported Employment Performance Program (PCSEPP), funded by the Rhode Island Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities, and Hospitals (BHDDH), now offers a way for individuals who have never had a job to find new and creative ways to use their talents in their communities. Perspectives is collaborating with the J. Arthur Trudeau Memorial Center and AccessPoint RI, and others on the local and national level, to provide individuals with support, resources, and more to help them succeed in their career journey.

Perks of the program include learning how to use technological accommodations, like Able Opportunities, Inc.’s Work Autonomy app for the iPad, and how to find ways to represent themselves to employers in ways they can feel confident about, such as video resumes made with iMovie. PCSEPP also encourages individuals to discover their likes, dislikes, daily habits, goals, and other qualities that can point them on the path to a rewarding, personalized career.
